Army Marine ground forces often fall under Army Land Component Commander and a Marine Officer is the Army’s deputy commander.

Its not necessarily a disparaging relationship just one in which one service (in this case Male fleets) are generally considered “Senior”. In many militaries an arm or service is often considered “Junior”. The reference to “Junior” in the relationship between male and female fleet forces refers more to the general doctinal and cultural norms among different services. I see the need for clarification and how it may have came accross. this could also explain the clear antagonism between Azonia and Kyron… antagonism that goes beyond the standard disobedience and rivalry between to be expected in a military based social hierchy and kyron’s idiocincracies (sp?). Kyron is but one among many of subordinate commanders to Azonia… The fact that Breetai is so dismissive of Azonia does indicate that female Zentreadi forces are viewed as “junior” and the relationship between them is purely a formality of the Zentreadi doctrine… leading me to agree that the female forces were what was referred to as “Friendly Forces”. In this case Breetai is the Commander of the fleet and Azonia is second in command and takes over the fleet in Breetai’s absence. Generally the “junior” service or ally is second in command to the “senior”. although my inference is that Breetai’s and Azonia’s relationship is like a Joint or Combined relationship in Modern U.S. Also while the male & female were seperate forces with different capabilities and probably responsibilities/purposes in the Zentreadi military (don’t remembe females EVER piloting Pods) Azonia is CLEARLY in command of the fleet when Breetai returns to brief Dolza and is CLEARLY in command of Kyron…. Judging by the rest of Exedore’s comments, it sounds as if he’s describing more recent events so maybe the enemy was the Invid and the Zentraedi drafted local forces to help fight them. Maybe it was some local world rebellion and the force was helping the Zentraedi put it down. Given Exedore’s phrasing, the third option sounds the best to me: a local force, either from a world controlled by the Empire or at least allied with it, tasked to help the Zentraedi against whatever foe they were fighting. Besides, if Khyron nearly destroyed two divisions of the Masters’ own forces, wouldn’t they have severely punished him for that? Or at least kept him from joining the hunt for the SDF-1? They were the Masters, the leaders, the head of the Empire, the ones the Zentraedi were created to serve.

Even if for whatever reason that the Masters’ motherships or Bioroid units were needed to help the Zentraedi in this case, I don’t see them being referred to as ‘friendly forces’. I also don’t think the Masters were it either. If that is the case, why not say he nearly destroyed two of own divisions? Yes, they didn’t co-mingle, but the mere fact Azonia’s forces were fighting right alongside Khyron’s forces suggests no hardline command issues along gender lines.īut if they were Zentraedi units, isn’t that like the Army calling the Navy ‘friendly forces’? They all serve the same banner, the same Empire. Were they segregated that much? I don’t recall anything from the show that suggests a situation to that extreme. Supreme Commander Leonard is an Agent of the Robotech Masters. In “First Contact” both Exedore and Dolza mention that female Zentreadi exist (or have atlesat existed as none have made an apperance yet) in two seperate scenes. Up to that point the male and female Zent forces saw themselves as different species.Īre you sure you aren’t thinking about the OSM here. The two easily identifiable factions would be Zentreadi not part of Khyron’s units (and would be considered ‘friendly’) and the Masters.Ī third option might be locals co-opted to help the Zentreadi. Now if the Zentraedi were the military might of the Masters’ Empire, who then qualifies as ‘friendly forces’? Exedore’s usage of this phrase would seem to suggest that these forces were not direct Zentraedi unitsĪnother question to ask might be why the Zentreadi needed friendly non-Zentreadi forces to assist them (if it wasn’t Zentreadi)? Just who where they fighting that the Zentreadi needed allies.
